Text and Image

These are a few studies from Jane Davies's Text and Image Tutorial. The first four are transfer images (gel transfer) and are about 5" x 7" and the last two are larger, about 9 x 12. " Breaking News" was an exercise in using images, stencils, and texture techniques; "Fly" incorporated a bird image altered with citrasolv. This was a class full of new techniques and a lot of different interpretations on projects. I still have some projects left to finish, and some studies I need to rescan since I made changes to the originals. But here's a taste of that tutorial.

continuing with secrets of color

I was having such a good time in this class, I just kept playing with colors and ideas and layouts. Each of these pieces was created to represent something or other in exploration of the power of color and where and how it's used. The first set of pictures in the earlier post were small - mostly 5x7. In these, I expanded my skills and my format, working with 8x10's and even 9x12's. Most of all, I was having fun!

I set this blog up a while ago, then abandoned it. It's been sitting here empty for no other reason than I just haven't had a lot of time to think about it. But now I'm thinking that empty pages are pretty frightening - maybe even ominous. So I'm going to leave a few things here just in case you'd like to know what I've been up to.

Jane Davies has been offering some fantastic online tutorials, and I've taken a few. This is a new adventure for me. If anyone wants to know what an online tutorial should look like, sign up for one of Jane's. I've really learned a lot from her, and I've taken some tentative steps into acrylic painting and paper collage. The photos below are some of the projects I completed in her "Exploring the Secrets of Color" class. these are the very first pieces I ever made with acrylics, and I have to say I like some of them a lot.

Getting started

For now this blog is just going to be a place for me to store some things. I'm sure there will be some order to it at some point, or even some point to it. But for now, I'm still just wondering what I'm doing here!
